I went to a retreat this past weekend. It was AWESOME! I can honestly say that it has changed my life through a “4 o’clock” moment during the retreat. (This moment is a defining moment, where you encountered Christ.)
My story: Before the retreat, I was okay with the status quo, where I was at in my life of prayer. I knew in my head that I need to grow deeper but I was lazy. At the beginning of the retreat, I felt this barrier in my mind and my heart. I didn’t know why. But then throughout the retreat, the barrier kept on getting chipped away at. Then during a workshop, the speaker said, “We have the key to eternal life. How can we not share it?” He illustrated that we need to share our faith and how Christ has changed our lives with other people. Those words resonated with me in a different way. Those words convicted me, bringing home to me to go beyond my mentality of mediocrity. If Christ has changed my life, how can I not share it by living as He wants me to live? “Christ wants more than what we want for ourselves.” He wants us to grow deeper. It made me realize in a new way that if I’m not closer to Him, how can I effectively share Him? The “key” to eternal life is Him, living as He lived, believing what He taught.
The Holy Spirit knew what I needed to hear. In a way, it can be seen as a “light” that broke through to me. There are other “4 o’clock,” defining moments throughout the retreat, this is just one that I’ve been sharing since then.
Now on to Sunday’s Homily…
The whole theme was on how Jesus is a “Light in the Darkness.” Father mentioned how God does more than the circumstances in our lives. Wherever the worst is, the Lord can work there. God is glorified in the greatest need. Jesus came to the sinners. The saints are those who rise above the degradation in their lives.*
*whole paragraph is paraphrased one-liners from the homily.
Challenge:
How has God touched your life? When was Christ a Light in your darkness? Share that moment with another person at least once this week.
